Author and illustrator Richard Wiles
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Great Britain in 1954, Richard has been a professional writer and editor for more than fifty years, working for major national magazines and book publishers in-house and as a freelance contributor. He has authored and edited numerous non-fiction books on a variety of topics – travel, home interest, interiors, renovation, social history, photography – compiled bilingual dictionaries aimed at English speaking ex-pats creating homes and gardens in France, and founded Houses & Interiors, a photographic library and syndication agency. Richard is also an illustrator and graphic designer.
His debut historical fiction book, The Serpent's Child, will soon be published, and he is embarking on the second historical novel, Songs of the River.
A retired hot air balloon pilot, he edits and produces Aerostat, the quarterly journal of the British Balloon & Airship Club. He plays guitar and stubbornly persists at saxophone. A former runner up to marathon and ultramarathon distances, he enjoys outdoor activities such as walking and cycling. For the last decade he has been renovating his home, an ancient stone barn on a hillside in south-west France.
